I have been doing a lot of special themed cakes in the last two months and always end up with some amount of cake crumbs after I carve the cakes. This time I made these colorful cake pops with the left over cake pieces/crumbs and chocolate ganache, for my little cousins.
These are not the typical, perfect cake pops and I have no specific measurements for this recipe, it was just an experiment, that ended up being successful :)
So got any cake left after Christmas? Then try these colorful cake pops and let the celebration continue!
INGREDIENTS:
- Cake pieces - Any flavor, any quantity! (Check out these recipes)
- Frosting - Any flavor, about 1-2 tablespoons (I used some leftover buttercream frosting) *
- Chocolate (Dark/Milk/White) - About one cup, grated **
- Lollipop sticks or large toothpicks
METHOD:
- Get ready for the messy work. but with clean hands!
- Rub the cake pieces with your hands, to form even crumbs
- Add the frosting little at a time and mix well so that the mixture binds well. Do not add too much of frosting, as it would make the mixture too moist
- Make small balls/laddus and place them on a tray lined with butter-paper or aluminium foil
- Freeze the cake balls for 15-30 minutes, till they become hard
- In the meanwhile, melt the grated chocolate using a double boiler/microwave method
- Dip one end of the lollipop stick in the melted chocolate and insert it into the frozen cake ball
- Dip the ball into melted chocolate, and place on the lined tray with the ball facing down and stick up
- Repeat it for other balls and refrigerate them for a minimum of 15 minutes
- Dip a smooth or butter knife into luke warm water and smoothen the balls
- You can serve*** as such or decorate them with colorful edible sprinkles/gems/powdered pistachio.. and the list goes on!!
NOTES:
* If you do not have buttercream frosting, you could use any frosting of your choice or any sweet creamy spread like nutella
** Instead of melted chocolate, I used some remaining chocolate ganache that I had and melted it in a double boiler (Ganache is thicker than just melted chocolate, hence the texture might not be as smooth, but the taste was exotic!)
*** You can prick the pop sticks on a sponge or a thermocol covered with foil and serve them in style!
wht chocolate u used ... i tried wth dark chocolate compound its not gud
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned in the recipe, I have used some left over ganache.. if using compound, then milk chocolate would be a better option rather than dark
