Colorful Gumdrops (Jujubes)

Jujubes would be the favorite chewy sweet of everyone. It brings back my sweet childhood memories! When I came across the recipe online, I was surprised that it could be made so easily at home. I immediately tried it and it came out perfect!

Recipe Source: Betty Crocker
INGREDIENTS:
  • Unflavored gelatin/agar agar - 30 grams
  • Cold water - 1/2 cup
  • Water - 3/4 cup
  • Sugar - 2 cups
  • Food color - as per your choice
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar - for coating

METHOD:
  1. Take 1/2 cup of cold water in a bowl and sprinkle gelatin over it; set aside
  2. In a heavy bottomed pan, heat 2 cups of sugar with 3/4th of a cup of water. Let the sugar dissolve and bring it to boil
  3. Remove from heat and pour in the gelatin mixture. Stir well and add the vanilla extract
  4. Divide the mixture into separate bowls depending upon the number of colors you need
  5. Add in a few drops of food color and mix well
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared glass trays and refrigerate overnight
  7. Once it is set, cut it into cubes with a sharp knife
  8. Take a tray with sugar and roll the cubes over it. Store in air-tight container at room temperature
