Buying a loaf from a bakery is always an easy job. But the happiness of baking it at home from scratch, has some special feeling attached to it, that is hard to explain in words. The aroma that spreads our home while baking goodies, surely creates some positive vibes! This can never be got from a store bought bread. And a feather on the cap would be that you are using healthy ingredients and there are no hidden preservatives in it!
I sincerely followed the recipe from VegRecipesOfIndia and it turned out so well! My dad usually does not prefer to have bread but he too loved the taste and asked for more :) This is what happiness means to me! Try out this recipe and experience the bliss as I did!

INGREDIENTS: (Makes one loaf)
- Wholewheat flour - 3 cups
- Water - 1.25 cups
- Instant yeast - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon (I used light brown sugar, white sugar could also be used)
- Ghee - 2 tablespoons (Melted butter or oil could also be used)
- Curd - 2 tablespoons (Can be replaced with 1.5 tablespoons of vinegar)
- Milk - 1 tablespoon, for brushing on top of the bread
METHOD:
- Mix the flour and salt
- Add instant yeast and give an gentle mix
- Add sugar, ghee and curd and mix lightly
- Add water gradually and knead into a smooth, soft dough, that is a little sticky
- Brush the dough with little water and keep it covered in a deep bowl for 30-40 minutes
- This is how it looks after first raise
- Remove from the bowl, lightly punch the dough and knead well
- Shape the dough in the form of log and place it in a greased loaf pan
- Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it raise for 40 minutes
- Pre-heat the oven to 220C for 15 minutes
- This is how the dough looks after second raise. Almost double in size
- Brush the top of the loaf with some milk
- Bake it in the pre-heated oven for 25 minutes. When you tap the bread, it should sound hollow
- Remove from oven and let the bread sit in the pan for 5 minutes
- Remove the bread from the pan, place it on a wired rack and allow it to cool completely atleast for a few hours
- Cut them into slices and serve with any spread of your choice!
